My author-illustrator debut, Wilds of the United States (Chronicle Books), was a specific response to the rolling back of protections on our public lands. I wanted to honor the incredible and overlooked wild species and ecosystems we’re lucky to have in this country.

Closeups. I made sure I got each of the main species of feral parrot and parakeet species in Los Angeles into this flock; the other birds reflect the different ecosystems of the city. (I also threw in one more introduced bird, the bulbul, in honor of the pair that live in my neighborhood) #sciart
