So, never again do I want a queer person, of any age, to feel like they are alone. And I hope my stories can be those little spots of light I send out into this dark, cruel world, in hopes that they'll illuminate the way for those who are searching.

But I didn't have those stories when I needed them. And it almost broke me.

I needed to know that queer joy is real, and so, so powerful. I needed to know that "family" doesn't have to be limited to the people who's DNA you share, and that found family can carry you out of the darkness like a life raft. I needed to know that I was deserving of love.

Because I needed these stories. I needed to know that crushing on another boy was normal. I needed to know that my religion kept me locked away in a box, and that there was a bigger, more beautiful world outside of those walls waiting for me.
