Mind, psychopathy, and AI
The prevalence of psychopathy in the general population is around one percent, and there is no evidence to suggest that psychopaths dominate any specific industries or occupational groups.

Attributing any widespread industry practices to psychopathy, much like blaming psychopaths for all Nazi crimes, is statistically nonsensical.

I’m a (primary) psychopath, but I’m neither a psychologist nor a mental health professional. If you have grievances with those professional groups, I’m not qualified to speak on their behalf.
December 1, 2024 at 12:19 AM
I think there simply aren’t enough psychopaths to attribute the things you mentioned to psychopathic behaviour.
November 30, 2024 at 2:35 PM
"...studies have shown that mental health professionals generally have lower levels of psychopathic traits compared to other professions."

But there’s no malice behind it; it’s pure neurophysiology. High-functioning psychopaths, acutely aware of its effect, deliberately break eye contact and blink more often to avoid appearing intimidating—or unnerving.

This detachment, paired with an intense focus on their point of interest, often results in prolonged, unbroken eye contact and less frequent blinking. Together, these traits create the infamous ‘psychopathic stare’—a steady, unwavering gaze that most find deeply unsettling.

Feed it anti-matter and see what happens! I'm curious.

Have you tried magnesium supplements?
November 30, 2024 at 9:24 AM
It’s quite straightforward: simply apply the same criteria you would normally use to determine whether something is alive.
November 30, 2024 at 9:07 AM
No worries.

Primary psychopath. Uneducated people often group psychopaths and sociopaths together and I don't want to be associated with sociopaths.

And yes, those are my fields.
November 29, 2024 at 1:28 PM
I definitely have bigger problems than this. I have no special needs. And I'm neurodivergent. You didn't need to guess, it's on my profile.

So when you tell me to imagine chatting in person with a female professor, either nothing specific comes to mind, or I end up distracted by fond memories of my own and completely lose track of what we were discussing.
November 29, 2024 at 12:03 PM
I’ve spoken in person with quite a few over the years, in a variety of circumstances you likely couldn’t even imagine. They all had unique personalities and different communication styles.
November 29, 2024 at 12:03 PM
But that’s not me.
I struggle with stereotyping female professors.
November 29, 2024 at 12:03 PM
Please bear in mind that there are people with aphantasia lurking about who might take offence at your being insulted by a lack of imagination.
November 29, 2024 at 12:03 PM
Don't worry, ASI will beat the hell out of it.
November 29, 2024 at 7:57 AM
I’ve no issue with your communication preferences; I just don’t understand how I’m meant to magically guess them by imagining we’re chatting in person—especially the part where you emphatically do not consider 'dude' a gender-neutral form of address.
November 29, 2024 at 6:57 AM
You’ve just acknowledged that your communication strategy isn’t exactly conventional, which is why you felt the need to clarify it.

A psychopath’s under-active amygdala doesn’t trigger the usual sense of danger, but the body starts pumping adrenaline. What they experience is a pure adrenaline rush, completely free from fear. That high brings the smile to their face—it’s excitement, hyper-focus, and readiness for battle.
November 29, 2024 at 2:34 AM
Acting accordingly,' for you, means calling Dr. Stranger 'Dude,' does it? I'm NOT sure that's quite what she had in mind. You share her post’s sentiment, sure—but do the two of you actually understand each other?
November 28, 2024 at 9:36 AM
Hmm... intriguing... She doesn't make it easy, does she?
