Detention (2011) Dir. Joseph Kahn.

In a more just world, a cult hit on the scale of Scott Pilgrim & Donnie Darko. It’s funny, thoughtful, colorful, constantly moving & endlessly quotable. Shanley Caswell is nuanced and sympathetic in the eye of an insane hurricane. Even Dane Cook is fine in it.

Today I saw a student’s use of generative AI generate an eye chart (for a poster, hence the colours) that started out with large letters and ended with small, letter-ish non-letters.

This seems unsound.

There’s a QR code under the fold.

Don’t scan QR codes in the wild. Just as a matter of principle (and cybersecurity!)

Fruit includes “Fruits”, “Orange-colored”, “Arable Fruits”, “Kinki” which I think is a type of fish, and “Cucumber”.
Next: “omega-seeds”, virgin extra virgin olive oil, avocado extra virgin olive oil, and coconut lubricant, which is probably the AI thesaurus thinking it’s synonymous with oil. 3/n

Here we see some questionable notions of foodstuffs. “Tofu Eggs” and “the veggies” are listed as proteins, right above a section for vegetables (with poor orphan-paragraph control. ) Then, note the “Verdant beans”, “Peppers bell” and “Azucena” which Wikipedia tells me is either Lillies or dog meat.

I didn’t expect to become so cynical about technologies to generate text, but here we are: a “coobook” purchased by a hospital, intended for use by patients. Note the “2000+ Day Recipe” panel. It is a lie.
