Riiiight i forgot, this was back when somebody (i think from the american side) tried to say "Oh they aren't alien bugs, they are evil space angels".
I only know this because Framerater mentions it for a joke in one of his ancient console library reviews

also despite beung a japan focused announcement thing… only japanese franchises that people cared about were in the first 20 minutes and it was all stuff we knew of thanks to the Nintendo Direct. They literally started with Dragon Quest 7 because "Japan likes dragon quest amirite?"

its the eyes. they did the bulbasaur eyes from detective pikachu but here it looks wrong because bowser and the koopas stoll have regularish eyes
