I can see that being a reason too. They had a really great season for game conventions to hype the release as well. I imagine it's very calculated, for better and worse.

I hear ya, a 10 year development isn't a rush, but they did rush out features that needed more time to cook. I'd guess the visiting traders is not what they had in mind, especially with the issues it has had.
I'm sure the date had many reasons, probably more for a holiday release.
