Financing issues are a big part of the slow down, but it's downstream of the fact that adding 150k to the base price of every unit is an impediment to construction.

And yes, they've exempted rentals from certain taxes and development charges so that's where the industry is going.

The unsold inventory persisted because of city taxes and fees that add 150k+ to the base price of any new housing unit (condo) built in Toronto. You're ignoring a significant distorting factor that has strangled supply for at least a decade now.

IZ was explicitly supported by conservative councillors because they wanted to stop development in Toronto. If you read the transcripts of their statements they say it explicitly. Doug is right on this one
