Its with great pleasure to announce that I just passed my PhD viva with minor corrections yesterday! Big thanks to my supervisors Stephen Gibson & Marc Alexander for their support these last years - and to my examiners Mhairi Bowe and Simon Goodman for their constructive and challenging questions 😁

Although the first three words gives it away #EMCA
Racists used to just be outright racist and it was easy to spot.
But now, it's often concealed beneath layers of denial and obfuscation.
Now, you sometimes have to talk to them for up to 10-15 seconds before concluding that yes, they are in fact racists.

We're in such a late stage of capitalism to the point that particular vice chancellors can't imagine a society that doesn't put profit for profit's own sake – neo liberalisation is understood as a natural state of affairs
I get that people who think in such uncritical ways will claim to being 'pragmatic'. But they are complicity in making & maintaining education as business (capitalist realism writ large). When clearly it should be understood & engaged with as a social good & thus protected from the profit motive.

Now for a special session discussing Social Identity Theory 50 years later.

Steve Reicher highlights the importance of adapting the theory to the rapidly changing political climate.

We need only look to activism of the past to see how social identity has the power to enact social change.
