I have no intent to defend Garland, he was a miserable failure, but the comment I replied to was just false (except in a weasel-y sense that Jack Smith prosecuted Trump, not Garland).

According to the Supreme Court, Inciting a riot, was presumptively within his official duties, although it hedged a little "most of a President’s public communications are likely to fall comfortably within the outer perimeter of his official responsibilities."
December 2, 2025 at 6:26 AM
The immunity the Court has recognized therefore extends to the “outer perimeter” of the President’s official responsibilities, covering actions so long as they are “not manifestly or palpably beyond [his] authority.”

The decision was an absurd over-reach and made it clear Roberts was all-in on protecting Trump from prosecution. Was there a narrow window of a case that might have survived? Sure. If you'd started with that instead of absurd exaggerations, I never would have responded.

Bullshit. SC ruled: "a former President [has] absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority. And he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts."

In your universe, does the 2024 Trump v. US decision www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23p... just not exist, or is it somehow unrelated to the J6 prosecution of Trump?
December 2, 2025 at 5:46 AM
Just flat out wrong. Garland appointed Jack Smith as special prosecutor. Smith indicted Trump on 4 charges related to J6. Trump appealed the charges on the basis that he was immune from prosecution, the appeals court rejected his claim, and the SC infamously upheld his claim.

I had a very politically engaged friend explain to me in 2024 why Biden hadn't done student loan forgiveness (and he was supportive of Biden's imagined reasons), and it made no mention of the fact that Biden did student loan forgiveness repeatedly and was blocked each time by the Supreme Court.

Dems in the House conducted a full investigation. The report recommended that Trump be prosecuted and forced Garland to start prosecution, which was obstructed by the extremist SC. How does this history get erased even by people defending the Dems?

But if they aren't doing the work of making it even feel like it makes sense, then, yeah, dnf.

If it's post-apocalyptic FANTASY, I can see ways that might work. Also, if it's realistic post-apocalypse and they have a satellite connection, that would also work (realistic post-apocalypse recognizes that the apocalypse is almost always local).

Go buy injera from the Ethiopian bakery down the street.

Also, at least for my local chapter of Indivisible, it's easy to find the meeting dates and locations, so if I wanted to be anonymous in person, I could just show up and get involved. The chance no one would ask me for my email at a meeting is zero, but that's true of every meeting I've been in.

Phone number is optional. Email is necessary for follow up communication. Zip code allows for follow up communication from a local chapter instead of national. Participating at a warm body at marches level you can get from public information, but organizing participation requires communication

It's a genre I enjoy, and I enjoy that there is a genre of stories riffing on TOWWAfO.

Fair, but these are strange times over here. Might be worth reaching out to Bill McKibben or 3rd Act if you have questions. I'm not involved in any of this, just thought it was interesting and then your comment made me wonder (and explore) who was organizing it, so I thought I'd report back.

They claim to be a coalition of local groups. Clicking on specific events shows lots of 3rd Act sponsored events, plus 350 chapters and Climate Action Coalition chapters and lots of local groups (e.g. EnerJazz, Burkett Farm). 3rd Act has highlighted it: thirdact.org/events/sun-d...

Called-up National Guard are even easier to nationalize, and calling up National Guard to defend against Federal agencies is rebellion and would definitely justify nationalizing those NG units. That's exactly why Eisenhower nationalized the NG in Arkansas.

Wasn't that ICE, not NG? They were just finishing up assaulting and abducting an immigrant in the usual vague "Police" tactical uniforms when he said that, I haven't heard anything about NG being ordered to participate in immigrant abductions.

Second one looks kinda like poison ivy (or oak), but it doesn't look quite right. Reverse image search on it turns up boxelder maple images. This page lists the differences: www.carolinanature.com/trees/acne.h.... Main one is that boxelder has opposite leaves and poison ivy/oak have adjacent leaves.
