The deadbolt-style hotel locks *can* be unlocked from the outside, with an appropriate override key, but will not unlock with a regular key card. They protect you against front desk accidentally programming a key for your room while checking another guest in.

maybe add "A signed certification of identity is attached" to the request. do not attach copies of any other ID documents, they will only confuse them.

ohh, say more about that last bit! does the cross-device flow create a permanent link between phone and browser that you need to remember to revoke? or i guess it doesn't matter since requests need to be approved on the phone anyway. i think you've convinced me, this is great.

neither works very well for sharing accounts or signing into low-stakes stuff on machines you don't otherwise trust, which imo is unfortunate even if ultimately not enough to outweigh the massive benefits of not having passwords

Is that true of any Android phones sold outside Japan? Afaict Pixels only support this in the Japanese market models, and I thought the other manufacturers did the same
