The plugin itself should give you no extra problem.
The performance cost will come from the amount of boolean operations you keep "live", at some point it may slow down a bit.
But you can always do some manual cleanup, apply the modifiers, merge objects, etc to keep it under control.

It is IMO indispensable. Even if you are not planning to use boolean operations it comes with a bunch of time saver tools to automatically add sharp edges, etc

I would love to find out! I did the entire artwork for this game (Railgrade, which I don't really recommend lol) in about 6 months.
I can't remember exactly but it was like 12 trains, about 40 cargo and more than 60 buildings. It was crazy, but I needed the portfolio.
