Point Bonita

Point Bonita Lighthouse, located in the Marin Headlands near San Francisco. It is the only American lighthouse reached by a suspension bridge. The lighthouse was first lit on May 2, 1855, making it the third oldest lighthouse on the West Coast of the USA. It helped guide ships through the hazardous Golden Gate straits and was the first location on the U.S. West Coast to use a fog signal. The original lens room was moved to its current, more stable location in 1877. The lighthouse is still an active navigational aid, maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Before Lightroom (The area was a public burial ground, known as the Golden Gate Cemetery or City Cemetery, from 1868 until burials were banned in 1901 and the land was turned into a park in 1909. Thousands of people were interred here, including a significant number of Chinese immigrants who helped build the city, as well as members of Italian, French, Japanese, and other communities. The stone structure is believed to be a former ceremonial gateway to the Chinese section of the cemetery. Today, Lincoln Park is home to the Legion of Honor museum and a municipal golf course, with many remains still buried beneath the park grounds.)
