Migration is a fact and a necessity, given Europe's ageing population - to deny this is like King Canute trying to command the waves in the sea - an adult discussion on migration would start with acknowledging this fact and having a grown up conversation with the population on this basis #bbclaurak

Labour should stop listening to the garbage on undocumented migrants and come up with a convincing counter narrative about migration that acknowledges legal migration is high and seeks to meet the reasons for this - the challenges of an ageing population, dependence on cheap labour etc #bbclaurak

the real issue is legal migration and the reasons we are so dependent on it #bbclaurak undocumented migrants are a distraction and small in number compared to other equivalent European nations

if Farage hates immigrants so much, why not protest outside hospitals, care homes that are employing so many migrants rather than targeting the voiceless and vulnerable who cannot answer back, ie undocumented migrants #bbclaurak

@friendlesschurches.bsky.social can you start a sister organisation called Friends of the Friendless Pubs? I have just seen too many beautiful Victorian pubs left to wrack and ruin (possibly deliberately) and finally being demolished with the land used for car parks or just left to go wild

@therestpolitics.bsky.social the amount of 'illlegal' migrants is actually quite small but they are being scapegoated as part of a protest against migrants as a whole - and migration as a whole has become very high and the government needs to address this rather than the boats etc

@therestpolitics.bsky.social the left needs to articulate a narrative on migrations which demonstrates how much people have been let down by the imperatives of a right wing elite which have been interested in short term gains and lack thought or planning for the future, such as demands of ageing pop

@therestpolitics.bsky.social the failure of migration policy is that of a government that at least since Thatcher has been more interested in employing cheap labour from abroad than skilling up its own workforce in the present - why is n't Farage protesting about the lack of nursing burseries etc?

@therestpolitics.bsky.social if people want to protest about migrants they should be protesting outside care homes employing migrants (and looking after their nanna or disabled sibling) or outside all the hospitals employing migrants and providing them with vital care

@therestpolitics.bsky.social there is an issue with migration but its not "illegal migration" but legal migration with much of our health and social care system now being staffed by migrants - that is a failure of our government to provide the opportunities for British nationals to develop skills
