She should finish her damn term. Now her district will go months without a rep in Congress while Georgians shell out millions for a special election.

If I still had a vote in Georgia I’d consider this disquifying in a statewide race. Even if she were a candidate I’m predisposed to like.

Exactly.

Not an answer to your question, but it makes me so angry when electeds don’t finish their terms. It’s not at-will employment - it’s a contract with their constituents.

Now her district will go months, maybe a year, without a rep in Congress, and Georgians will spend millions for a special election.

Nice to hear the stage version of Poppins had some style, courtesy of Eyre. I never felt any need to see it.

Has any stage adaptation of a popular movie ever improved on the original, do you think? My only candidate is She Loves Me.

(I sampled a YouTube clip of Paper Mill’s Bull Durham. Couldn’t.)

Mary Poppins came out when I was three. Those were the first British accents I ever heard. DVD’s will always be the gold standard for me of how to do it.

@nightlightakron.bsky.social will have it in northeast Ohio. Very much recommended.

I don’t entirely agree Pattinson doesn’t have much to do. There’s enough there. But your point is very true of LaKeith Stanfield, an interesting actor on his way up, probably fielding lots of offers, who took a job that mostly could have been done by a day player, presumably to to be on this set.

"No one can pronounce it but you, Tota." I've seen a few actors play the part, but no one drops that bomb like Claude Rains.

Then he has her killed, of course.

A musician I know with a Ph.D. in composition was the composer and arranger for the Marine Corps. It's not a civilian job -- he had to join the Marines and go through basic training after he got his doctorate. Every army has a band. Someone has to lead it!

I'm having too much fun with election returns to watch The Lowdown tonight. Your review is bookmarked for tomorrow. Thanks!

I love In the Heights. Truly adore it. It’s good and it speaks to me. What’s more, it’s good enough to shine through local amateur productions as long as there are Latins involved. But LMM got bought by Disney before he could peak, like Bobby Lopez and Alan Menkin. Which is a shame.

Nikki sounds like the right kind of lawyer. You go, Nikki! My go-to order at the Little Bar is a bowl of chili and a wedge salad. Highly recommend.

I met him in the ‘80s when he did Burn This with my cousin. Old-school and of the moment - even defining the moment - at the same time. I’d like to say he left me speechless but I probably blathered to the point of boring him.

Ethan Hawke’s 2025 is all about intense reactions to Oklahoma.
November 3, 2025 at 6:03 AM
I saw Blue Moon today (wonderful!), set entirely on the opening night of a famous musical. Someone asked Ethan Hawke’s Lorenz Hart what he thought of Oklahoma. Me, muttering to myself: “There’s a nice diner near my bookshop but the guy running for governor is mixed up with some seriously bad dudes.”

This is the best thing I’ve seen all day. Well done you.

Exactly. Thirty years on and they still seem new at this.

Mariners fans knew so little about baseball during the ‘95 ALCS vs. Cleveland that the P-I had to publish an explainer detailing, among other things, the difference between a double and a double play. We had fun with that.

We had Ettore Boiardi. Cleveland hero.

They just gave up in Wooster, Ohio, and made the spelling phonetic.

My massive crush dating back to his Orton/Vicious era is only enhanced and deepened by Jackson Lamb.

I could watch an entire series of him and KST just sitting on a park bench taking the piss out of each other.

It's killing me to avoid all your recaps of this show for a couple more weeks until I have a chance to start it!

There are no little ones in my family anymore. I miss that. So it was lovely spending a long weekend in Dublin with my friend’s later-in-life toddlers, rolling around on the floor, making clay pies, losing at Mario, and going to see the bog bodies. I feel recharged.

Ah jeez, Alan. Best of luck. I may or may not keep RS, depending on who’s still there. But I’ll subscribe to your Ghost right now. Wishing you a soft and professionally satisfying landing.
