One of a dozen ravens seen above a quiet Chilterns valley yesterday. They circled above me emitting bass cronks, while, at the other end of my frequency range, a gang of goldcrests sent thin calls from the heart of a yew. 🍂🌿 #nature

After a few virus-inflicted ‘off-games’ weeks, it was good to be back out for a slither along some squelchy Oxfordshire Way miles. 🚶🏻🥳

What a striking contrast in habitat management methods: 1/4 ‘take no prisoners’ contractors in much-loved local woodland; 2/4 & 3/4 carefully targeted scrub-bashing and lopping by @savebutterflies.bsky.social volunteers to help wild strawberry growth and boost grizzled skipper prospects (4/4). 🦋💚

Only just getting going on here, but I’ve been around for a while. These are from 1991, more than half a life ago. Shetland - rocking the wannabe farmer look and getting close to the Hermaness puffins.

60 years on from its closure, I’m walking a stretch of the Hull >Withernsea line. I’m told I travelled this way, in the pram phase. Childlike excitement today at the masses of fieldfares and redwings, the skeins of geese overhead. But most of all when I heard and spotted the shape of a hawfinch. 🤩
