Y10 have been busy-filleting mackerel offered the opportunity to practice precision knife skills (& have a tasty chefs snack!) then they turned scientific & investigated emulsions & how make them-which of course had to end in a sensory testing session. Collaboration & communication were key.

Friday morning Life session with Y13 who have learned how to make a quick, easy, healthier and more budget-friendly alternative to expensive pizza deliveries. Great preparation for the independent living many of them will be experiencing next year ☺️

Our wonderful technician Mrs Mearon, who is trained in butchery, led a live cook along demonstration of how to portion a whole chicken. Y10 students followed along with their chickens, and used the breasts to make a quick and delicious curry and will use the legs and wings for a casserole next week.

Y7 have learned how to use the grill safely, and make themselves a quick and easy lunch that includes foods from every section of the Eatwell Guide. It was a joy to observe their independent work to produce a delicious pitta pocket - a key life skill nailed!

Another busy morning of LIFE sessions today. Year 9 were practising active listening and presentation skills, Year 11 were focusing on physical activity to help wellbeing ahead of mock exams, and Year 13 were preparing a quick and cost-effective student staple – pizza!

Year 10 have been understanding how dietary needs can be different dependent on our stage of life, or a number of special dietary needs. They have planned a specific dish that would be suitable for the dietary needs of a particular individual

The school week may have only been 2 days long for most students but we managed some excellent practical work already. Y13 Food Scientists are sensory testing 2 versions of the same soup to investigate the effects of caramelising the vegetables first, while Y10 practice precision knife skills.

Y10 learned an easy mayonnaise recipe and were challenged to turn a simple set of ingredients into a well presented plate…such creativity and precision knife skills!

Paella workshop is underway in Poble Espanyol. 30 degree heat is not deterring these food enthusiasts as they prepare their own lunch! Such excitement and the chefs cannot believe their laser focus and knife skills! #Cookiteca

The Barcelona tour has visited La Sagrada Familia this morning and has now landed in Poble Espanyol for a history of Tapas lesson, along with tastings…..very delicious!

Y12 Food Science & Nutrition students started the day of their exam having a nutritious revision breakfast! Filling minds & fuelling bodies at the same time.Somehow Mrs S managed to recap a lot of the topics that appeared on the paper later that day! 👏🏻
Pretty happy students walked out of the exam 😊
