Because of his asthma, he doesn't purr at an audible volume - you can still feel him purring! He only purrs audibly when he's tremendously relieved after a period of high stress for him.

My oldest cat was similarly quiet until we moved out of my parents' - he still is very talkative after 7 years!
He was just comfortable and excited to be on our own, so hopefully Ivory is a similar story - just comfortable in her surroundings.
