4 = The Royal Cartographer by @albi13.bsky.social. I'm being a little selfish with a game I helped edit lol. This was the first map-labeling game I introduced my mostly-D&D table to, and they had a blast.

So yeah, this was my first foray into journaling games. The feedback I got gave me the courage to make Superstition, which is in the creator day sale. itch.io/s/109688/bla...

It is super simple but I think that's why I like it so much - it gives the player so MUCH space with such a universal experience: losing stuff you care about. It also plays with themes of memory and hidden information which feature in all my games.

So I figured a good way to deal with all that was make a game. My Life In Cardboard has you write down your belongings on post-its, each representing a box in your move. Some are destroyed, some are lost. Some make it through the move.

I was thinking about all the things I'd left behind, and some that were destroyed in the move. Did they really matter that much? The rugby ball, the towel grandma gifted me, the table I built with my wife... the move had made large feelings that barel registered before.

I literally dreamt this game up - or rather, I was in that half-asleep state as my first child was only 10 months old and having trouble sleeping. We had just moved house too, so the feelings of packing everything up were fresh in my mind.
