Good article here about the need to explicitly considering biodiversity when designing and implementing forest restoration initiatives. Assuming that planting trees will just do the trick is not enough.

In protected areas across Africa, human-wildlife conflicts are a growing problem, with nearly three-quarters of governments saying they’re a “major or serious concern.”

Dutch chocolate maker Tony’s Chocolonely has been at the forefront of pushing sustainability in cocoa production - long before the EUDR was conceived of.

Hopefully these new regulations will add to their efforts & rid the supply chains of imported commodities like cocoa of deforestation.

Imagine if people started commercially killing naturally returning large land-based wild fauna for meat, like wolves, bears, or lynx on the European continent? There would be uproar.

This is NO different. But because fish are marine animals, it's seen by many as fine.
