Thanks Estuary & Ocean Science Center @sfstatebio.bsky.social for a great seminar visit! Exciting to interact with engaged grad students & PI's, and present our work on long-term community change! @robfour.bsky.social @fishteph.bsky.social @starryflo.bsky.social @jimhobbsphd.bsky.social!

We found that early low flows and non-native fish had additive, but not synergistic effects on stream insect emergence. Low flows shifted community structure, and brown trout increased the emergence of small-sized groups - and benthic algal biomass!

We subjected stream channels to future low-snowpack & early snowmelt scenarios, and to presence of brown trout, a global invader. We tracked dynamics of emerging insects—a key linkage connecting streams to the adjacent terrestrial environment

Interested in climate change, invasive predators, and cross-ecosystem linkages? Check out our newest paper in @aslo.org's L&O, from a fun experiment we ran three summers ago in California's Sierra Nevada, beautifully led by postdoc @chaevangelista.bsky.social!

⬆️Please mee t the Puerto Rican tody (an endemic beauty), the amazing cloud forest we hiked @ El Yunque, the tiny Caribbean white-lipped frog, and ⬇️ a dreamy creek covered with bromeliads and tree ferns! #SFS2025

Back from a short but intense week in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, catching up with friends and collaborators at #SFS2025 - and finding creeks & endemic birds in El Yunque National Forest! 💯 CC @rosemohammadi.bsky.social @rmaz.bsky.social

So happy to see Dr. Eugènia Martí, great scientist and colleague from Catalonia, be inducted as SFS Fellow. So well deserved - an inspiration for us all! #SFS2025

Thank you Maite Arroita (U. Basque Country) for visiting @natureatcal.bsky.social and teaching a great crash course on river ecosystem metabolism! CC @euerasmusplus.bsky.social #BerkeleyFreshwater

Cool finding: isolated pools in drying rivers have incredibly high perimeter to area (P/A) ratios, and aquatic predators such as giant water bugs enjoy the increased influx of terrestrial prey! #BerkeleyFreshwater CC @robfour.bsky.social @rosemohammadi.bsky.social

Not at #AGU2024 this year, but if you are interested in riparian ecology please check out Ruhi Lab presentations by Rose Mohammadi and Jessie Moravek. Riparian trees, beavers, and river flow regimes! (also cool wavelets) #BerkeleyFreshwater

So fun to brainstorm a grant proposal today with @robfour.bsky.social, on stream drought & phenology of insect emergence. The whiteboard diagram may look cryptic but the ideas are pretty exciting!
