In January I started animating the latest Tux and Fanny movie “When We Become Wind” - I have 6 min finished & I’m really enjoying where it’s taking me. This time I won't release them as episodes along the way, but rather wait until it’s all finished to share as a complete movie 🟣🔴⛵️

In summation, if you like practical special effects you might enjoy our movie Strawberry Mansion 🍓 @kentuckeraudley.bsky.social & I made it in Baltimore with a small crew for 200k 🎥 You can stream it on Tubi or Amazon or buy the blu-ray or VHS 📼 Thanks for stopping by 🏝️ ✌️

Some more behind-the-scenes pics including most of the crew having lunch, September 2019 (31/32)

Thanks to our DP Tyler Davis who took many of the behind-the-scenes pics in this thread 🎥 (30/32)

Four more stills from shots that never made it into the final movie (29/32)

Theses stills are from deleted scenes on the Blu-ray. If you watch them you'll very quickly understand why they didn't make the final film 🙃 (29/32)

Before we filmed our movie we shot some tests to see how the hologram effect would look on Preble. We also tested out alternative fields for the mansion. (Notice the dollhouse before it was painted and built out) Also a tape man test (28/32)

When the bird lands on the chair in Bella's dream, I was just on the ground moving it around a bit and then I removed my hand in post 🦜 (27/32)

Here's how Matt Lathrom made the pink bubble that our characters float away in (26/32)
March 6, 2025 at 9:28 PM
I sent Matt Lathrom the first image of the fly in a web made of hot glue and then he worked his after effects magic and made it move and talk (25/32)
March 6, 2025 at 9:27 PM
A few FX involved some 3D modeling. Matt Lathrom shared these BTS images showing how we turned a character into a blimp 🎈 (24/32)

Here’s the initial sketch for Captain Kelly’s Chicken next to the final design by Nolan Strals. I designed the menu screen in photoshop and then Julian Glander animated the chicken head in the middle of it. We brought a TV to a forgotten parking lot and that’s where we filmed it 🐔 (23/32)

The ad-blocking helmet was made by Marnie Ellen Hertzler. Made by taking apart a bunch of electronics and then hot gluing wires and random bits to a bike helmet with some foil tape and Christmas lights thrown in ⛑ (22/32)

I made the small pink house at the end of the frozen tundra from a cardboard shoe box, some leftover dollhouse roof tiles, and other junk laying around like a straw. Layered snow on top and added some smoke coming from the chimney and it was done ❄️🏠 (21/32)

Our character is lost in a frozen tundra. First we filmed him walking in front of a green screen, then I made the background. To make snow we filmed flour floating through the air lit only by a flashlight, then put it all together & added some breath condensation to sell it 🌨 (20/32)

The pink room (made by production designer Becca Brooks Morrin and art director Lydia Milano) is one size for most of the movie except for a scene where it shrinks. To pull this off we had one wall on hand trucks so it could roll (19/32)

A character falls from the sky into the ocean. We filmed
@kentuckeraudley.bsky.social in front of a green screen. We wanted to film underwater as he landed but ran out of time so I used some jellyfish footage I filmed at the aquarium and found a nice dissolve from the jellyfish to hair 🌊 (18/32)

In our movie two characters turn into beets. We had paper mache costumes for the actors to wear when saying their lines. Then I filmed real beets based on their movements, filmed an out of focus background, and gave it all to Matt Lathrom to put together 🔴🔴 (17/32)

In our movie our main character Preble dreams in a small, pink room. At one point he’s greeted by someone special and we wanted the walls to fall down around him, revealing a green field. To achieve this we built a wall in a field and then pushed it over 👉🟥 (16/32)

Which brings us to the four amazing heads that @clockworkcreature.bsky.social made for us. The only thing we added to any of them in post was a few blinks for the blue demon, other than that they all appear in the movie as they were filmed 🎭 (15/32)
March 6, 2025 at 8:52 PM
Here's how we made the blue demon grab the ship out of the ocean: first there was the collage sketch, then I put on the demon mask made by @clockworkcreature.bsky.social and performed the action in front of a green screen, then Matt Lathrom put it all together and added water/fire effects 👹 (14/32)
