A few bat species will take up space in buildings for summer roosts! We have some good advice on how to safely coexist with a colony on our website www.albertabats.ca/batsinbuildings It is rarer to find them there in winter - but that is highly dependent on your location & the bat species!
Bats in Buildings - Alberta Community Bat Program

🦇Signs of white-nose syndrome in bats was first noted in upper New York State in 2006! So, the fungus was probably here a couple of years before that. www.whitenosesyndrome.org has tracked the spread. Estimates are that we have lost 10million+ bats since 2006.

It has been a big effort by a large number of people! We are thrilled that it is helping. We are now working with the biologists in AB and have applied it to two sites which we hope to follow next spring. The hope is we get funding to continue this work and actually mount a defense for western bats!

LOL! No apologies needed. The bat biologist world is well aware of the unique attributes of bats - especially when it comes to mating and reproduction. We could have an animated convo about male bats! Most species do have extraordinary penises and there is a whole paper about testicle sizes. 🍆🥜

Thank you to whoever just donated $25 bucks to the kid's fund! They will be thrilled that they reached their target! The donation page will be active for another week too for anyone who wants to contribute! Even $5 makes a difference!

Right? We don't think about bats grooming! But they are tidy wee things! Especially fun is when they "comb" their fur with their toes. #FastestFeetInTheWest
