I fought for the dream to mean something real.

Robert Arnold’s book Defiance Til Death has been one of the most meaningful books of poetry & essays that I’ve read in the last 20+ years. (7/7)

where the color of your skin isn’t the color of your sentence. Where my children, your children & their children have a future again. This is my America, the one I will claw toward with bloodied hands & when they bury me, let them know! (6/7)

They will tell me to love it or leave it. But I will stay. I will fight. I will tear down the gilded facade and demand what is right. I dream of an America where the sweat of your brow earns you dignity, where no mother chooses between food and rent, (5/7)

Why are the lives of thousands worth less than a billionaire’s yacht? They will say I’m angry. Good. And her is the fire that forges change. They will call me unpatriotic. But what is patriotism if not the will to perfect the dream we were promised? (4/7)

For the teachers who teach without pay, for the healers who heal without care, for the poets who scream into silence. Why do we fight wars for oil, but not justice? Why do we police the streets for immigrants but abandon those cities to rot? (3/7)

But we till the fields of despair instead, and call it progress. I rage for what we could be, for the America they etched on pages but never in action. For the tired masses they swore to welcome, only to cast them into cages. (2/7)
