Does this mean shareholders know executive labor doesn’t exist / is worthless? What do firms actually buy from their executives? (Souls, perhaps?)

Was “engage” a catchphrase? I thought it was supposed to be, like, standard operational language for managing a warp engine. “Anchors aweigh!” but in the future.

Yeh, no shade. Would that we could all be footloose transnational aristocrats

I’m pretty sure they’re like, oppressed victims of monstrous tyranny worse than what we’re told about North Korea. But their horrific autocracy takes our $billions in work-commute gas money and then splits it w/ US financial & defense firms, so we only get to hear about the princes or whatev.

Wasn’t she supposed to be, like, a centuries-old sojourner from a mysterious alien culture that hid its power level and refused all worldly entanglements?

Bullseye as to what RW romanticist types are so ignorant about. Material conditions change, but dig in to primary sources and cultural ephemera of any age; people’s responses and reflections are completely legible as what any normie’s of today would have been. We’re all cut from the same cloth.

The conservative elites are taking a crack at libraries because they are stupid. Small businesses fall over themselves for any chance to promote themselves at local libraries. The top circulating library books are the screeds by Fox News regulars. They don’t know their own audience!

Clocks should be synchronized with designated public sundials. Every gas station and bodega should sell cheap astrolabes for telling time based on solar and astral altitude and azimuth.

No, but their staff and consultants take their money to tell them that they do have the secret and that it doesn’t.

Maybe, or his parents. I think plenty of people don’t think this stuff through as it pertains to their own interests, and shoot themselves in the foot politically.

If your private sector boss has to compete with better paying government jobs, which you could also apply for, it pressures him to pay you more himself. It’s basic economics. Not a problem for you, unless you yourself own a business with employees.

There’s plenty of technology that we know how to make but don’t, or stopped. Atomic rockets and jets. Thorium reactors. Leaded gasoline. CFC spray cans. Guillotines. Radium glow-in-the-dark paint. Subcutaneous homing beacons. Lobotomies. Zeppelins. Ammonia engines. Human cloning. Etc., etc.

A subterranean undercurrent in that dynamic is that RW chuds have a secret crush on devil-may-care alpha-male jet-set millionaire playboy scion Hunter Biden.

What about some kind of antitrust law that shuts hedge funds and conglomerates out of media M&A? I feel like I read that pre-Reagan, FCC had strict limits on mergers of TV stations with each other and other media.

What are the prioritized people supposed to do if politicians stop doing whatever it was that won their votes?
January 19, 2024 at 12:33 AM
Why would an officeholder *ever* listen to protests, petitions, etc., without an implicit, credible threat of votes withheld if demands are unmet? Without those stakes, it’s *objectively unreasonable* for them to respond to protests that go against donors and institutions.

“Welfare reform” is the biggest reason (I suspect) why a single honest 40-hr job can’t support a family of five anymore. It’s basic market economics: employers stopped having to compete with the dole. Libertarianism is as servile as it is racist.

It’s already a big hit, and has been for a long time, but the marketing people changed the name to “plant-based milk.”
