I’m awake early writing a poem about Santa as a salmon fisherman. Because he was when I was a kid. His sleigh (troller) was the FV Mary Lou. He was the American Legion’s (& maybe the Elks’) Santa.

Since I’m often left out (other Alaskan poets are too for some reason) of nature/climate themed poetry readings & events—yes, even zoom events—I read to Livingston my resident seagull. He shrieked loudly that he loved my poem.

We filled the bus today! 🚌 estimated at 1,200 + pounds of food donated. Then we unloaded the bus at the Salvation Army food pantry. A good day’s work!

🚌 Look what else we’re doing in Wrangell! I was inspired by Sitka’s Fill the Bus event! Now we’re going to fill Breakaway Adventures’ shuttle bus next week on Thursday & give the goods to the Salvation Army Food Bank. 🥫

I had three helpers & we gave most of the baked goods away! Plus someone donated eggs & milk & cheese & apples! We had about 20 people received the goods. Anything left goes to our food bank tomorrow.

Baked for three days so I can take baked goods in the back of my car 🚗 & give out to our island’s SNAP recipients, Elders, furloughed, unemployed, hungry. I’m doing that at 1:00 pm today! Gotta help somehow!
