On Oct. 12, Ex-typhoon Halong hit AKs western coast, causing severe flooding in the Kuskokwim River Delta. VIIRS instruments captured the storm's trajectory in this animation using the longwave-IR band.

Hot, dry conditions increased fire activity across the interior this weekend, evidenced by rapid growth for Aggie Creek Fire just north of Fairbanks off the Elliot Highway. This animation uses GINA heat points to track the fires growth from 18,281 to 38,881 acres over July 4-7.

Discovered June 19, near Parks Highway milepost 262, Bear Creek has rapidly become one of the largest fires this year. This animation uses GINA heat points to track fire progression over 5 days, as it grows from 20 acres at discovery to ~28,000 acres as of June 29.

This animation from May 5, 2025 shows the VIIRS Blowing Snow product, looking at the North Slope of Alaska east of Utqiagvik. Blowing snow can be seen around Prudhoe Bay, highlighted in yellow. Clouds over the ocean are show in blue/cyan, and snow and ice is colored red. #akwx
