This is one of the best lighting jobs I've ever seen ... no the picture doesn't do it justice. Love Janssons paintings litterally 'glow' against the black background. Well done Helsinki Design museum 👏

According to ECMWF Melissa will 'barrel' into Cuba tomorrow morning, about 14 hours from now with still enough 'steam' to whip up 200mh gusts.
October 28, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Jamaica right now according to ECMWF, 237 km gusts on Jamaica's west-southwest coast.
October 28, 2025 at 6:35 PM
Melissa surely hasn't weakened overnight. Hurricane strength windgusts are likely already present at the southern coastal regions of Jamaica. The expected storm surge in about 8 hours at the south coast is quite something. 5.2m at Black River is concerning for all upstream communities from there.

The forecast for Hurricane Melissa for tomorrow afternoon is concerning. ECMF forecasts 200+ km/h wind-gusts on land. GFS and ICON are a little more optimistic.

Amongst them, as Grenadiers of the Guard, my 3xgreat-grandfather 'Jean' Witte (my father's side) and my 3xgreat-granduncle 'Guillaume' Bulten (my mother's side). In the same Guards regiment served 3 others, one other as Tirailleur of the Guard, and finally one other was Hussar in the 11th Hussars.

🤔 so how is Putin going to fly there without crossing into EU airspace of other countries or be target-practice for Ukraine?

I think Perseverance may just have designed Mars' future flag 🤭

Four impressions from gorgeous #Hildesheim.

You read US posts about how Europe is finished, then you walk into a church in Hildesheim and you see and hear this

I've always loved Münster. In 1986, I was very close to doing my degree there instead of Utrecht. Ever since my childhood, it was a special city for me. It still is.

Always a comforting sight 😊 ... especially after the Boeing 737 at the gate next to yours was delayed for 60 minutes because they couldn't get a door closed😬

Walking through one of the most Green/Left voting towns of Germany, it's not hard to push some of the far-right, dank, sewage seeping out of the US, and channelled by the AfD, out of sight for a moment to see and reminisce what we're fighting to preserve: lessons learned from a millennium of strife

Perhaps it's time to call that bluff? There are plenty of Russian troops to retaliate against in UA & on the UA-RUS borders. A response to a Russian attack should be overwhelming and sustained. Peace can't be maintained by deployments that can't bite & do damage. We better commit to that a priori.

#KCL Hospital flying "England" flags is pathetic, and probably a stunt of some ethni-nationalist nerf-herder.

I must say, I find "North Korea tourism experience-reports" to be among the most disgusting flavours of journalism🤢. People who do this stuff & who write this guff will no doubt also be raving over the beaches of Gaza in 5 years, or the quietness-retreats the Taliban could consider offering.🤮

I've been thinking about Russia's demand for security guarantees 😬 But if it contributes to creating a just peace for Ukraine, I will happily promise not to follow my 3xgreat grandfather's example of invading Russia.

Today, I said final farewells to my brother-in-law, really my '3rd brother'. I can hardly believe I have known him since 1976. Even if I would reach the age of 98 (unlikely), I still would have known him for more than half of my life.
