That was my concern. We’ve got *two* good Toymen now and frankly neither one is ever going to be a big deal. We need to get away from “redeeming” villains. Enjoyed the issue though

Never loved the story but the art knocks me on my ass every time I read it.

I loved the arc Mora drew which is Rise of the Superwoman. Clark and Lois vs. Time Trapper hit perfectly for me. The next arc after that sucked though. It’s very uneven, when I dig it I love it, but when it drags it really dips

Where is this from? Great find!

In the comics I think it was Kubert but I’m pretty sure Donner’s films were the origin for that aesthetic

Found it very reminiscent of Bendis which is no surprise considering both come from similar Jewish backgrounds and made their names on Spider-Man. Leaned more towards Bronze Age Superman in terms of voice however.

Still excited but I’m so sick of Batman. Feels like writers think Superman fans are eager to see Bats show up because *they* are eager to write him and that’s just not the case.

Solicit mentions him being involved, it sounds like he’ll be the co-lead

Lex insisting on Superman being an “it” made me confident I am going to love him. I see that Morrison and Azz influence lol. Also Corensupes actually having a personality had me practically leaping for joy, “eyes up here” was such a perfect Superman display of confidence

His Brainiac superior getting murdered has to be setting up a future plot point, just don’t know what. Also feels like the Brainiac Collective exists so that even after this Brainiac falls, Supes still has them lurking out there as a threat.

I loved how both he and Kal were born into the lowest caste and became something “greater” via the deaths of their respective “worlds”. But Kal rejected the Kryptonian social ethic whereas Brainiac embraced it, he treats his own underlings as badly as he was treated.

Even a fight as mild as this between Clark and Lois feels like something many writers would shy away from today

Maybe inciting incident isn’t the right phrase but when I saw this my mind immediately went to kid Bruce staring at his parents bodies in Crime Alley and making the vow to eradicate crime

I’m expecting that too. It’s Brainiac I’m really excited about, we’re finally getting Waid’s take on him after he’s talked about having ideas for Brainiac for years. Fingers crossed it’s as good as his Lex.

Oh hey late to ask but what did you think about Aaron giving Supes a Batman/Spider-Man “this is the definitive moment where he decides to be a hero to right a past wrong”?
March 19, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Waid writing Clark as a literal child set in the past as Superboy is the best possible format for him to write the character in these days because otherwise he exposes how his position on Superman hasn’t changed or evolved since 2007 or thereabouts.

Lex not giving a shit and actually getting off on learning Clark tortured himself for letting Lex become a villain was hilarious. I love petty villain Lex, he’s such a dick.

Can’t speak for the rest but North’s Krypto is going to rule, I’ve got every confidence in him. His F4 is awesome, every issue is a stand-alone story that feels worth the price and has done a wonderful job fleshing out the team and supporting cast.

Waid works best when using a status quo he’s comfortable with so this should hopefully be a cut above his previous Action run, and to be fair the schedule for that would cause most writers to fail. And if it sucks well we have Aaron and PKJ (and I have Williamson). North’s Krypto is going to rule

Had a good chuckle at him saying he’ll be “updating” Smallville. No way does he have the balls to tackle the truth about rural America post Trump, not after how he scrub Jor-El of his biggest moral flaw. But Aaron looks ready to gut that fantasy over in Absolute Superman anyway

Drawing Clark like Tom Welling does warm my cynical zoomer heart though lol
