Not personally bothered by either of those two aspects - but this kind of clever eye candy will eventually devalue the natural world as people will start to feel the illusion is as good as the real thing. (Apologies to artists and art fans everywhere.)

Stainless steel being another iteration I guess. Mild steel is presumably relatively cheap and easy to work.

As a woodworker I get great delight in seeing traditional jointing principles being applied in cast iron (photo from Ironbridge, Telford)

Th problem at my age (70s) is that much of the the sci-fi I read as a teenager is now old hat.

In the 1950s an older brother pointedly told me Dan Dare's wristwatch communicator would be a thing inthe real world one day ... I was like .. "Oh well, yeah ... doubt it ..." now I feel a bit stupid!
