I tend to favour them as upgrades on MIM Fenders and Epihones, which don't really justify boutique level pickup costs.

Good question! It depends on the application, but having spent loads on Seymours and DiMarzios in my youth I find there is a sweet spot these days with brands like Tonerider or particularly Iron Gear here in the Uk which are high quality and sound excellent for half the cost.

For me it doesn't, just because i don't hear a difference. I'm much more concerned about the pickups and amp. Wood is more about weight and aesthetics for me
