Excellent read. Long been a fan of Eric Hobsbawn and read many of his books. His auto-biog "Interesting Times" is one of the few books I've read twice. Hobsbawn lead a fascinating long life and this long book more than does him justice.

Just finished the Golden Road. Beautifully written and encyclopaedic in scope we learn how India has deeply influenced the world. Of particular interest to me was the early development of mathematics and astronomy and how this passed via Bagdhad to form the basis of early European understanding.

In 144 pages Ilan Pappe has provided a remarkably concise history of events in Palestine over the last 100 years. Essential reading for anyone trying to understand how we ended up here witnessing a genocide supported by western governments.

Just finished this excellent read. Based around a bike ride across Europe to Tehran via the Balkans, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan and Oman we learn from her personal encounters on the road and her excellent pen pictures of the regimes she passes through. Highly recommended !

Thrall uses the tragedy of a bus crash involving children to weave a story about the lives of all involved. We learn of the daily grind of living under apartheid. The walls, check points, coloured residence passes and how this led to the tragedy and added to the consequences. A must read book !
