The entire history of US civilian nuclear power, which has produced 1/5th of our electricity for decades with no CO2 or air pollution, has produced less than 100,000 tons of high level waste. We burn billions of tons of fossil fuels EVERY YEAR.

Hopefully we will see fewer Ophthalmologist dictators now.

This approach can help detoxify the politics of house building - still democratic with prospectively agreed local design codes which can be debated. Currently, every housing project gets considered afresh which slows things down and leads to uncertainty due to a motivated minority NIMBY opposition.

Croydon briefly implemented similar and had substantial uptick in housebuilding with improved affordability as a result. Internationally similar systems are widely implemented and remain democratically accountable.

Biden/Harris burned through political capital on populism: reviving manufacturing, strengthening unions, fighting monopolies… and passed a historic climate bill. The lack of credit from leftists (+their active obstruction) is why it’s not worth engaging with these groups - nothing will satisfy them

That’s a lot of mistruth re the Harris platform + Liz Cheney agreeing to campaign alongside with no changes to platform was good (broad tent). Doubtful a few changes here and there would have changed the overall outcome… but re-litigating this with me online is also not going to change the outcome.

Harris’ campaign was a fairly populist one. Their messaging was also quite effective, given the overall shift towards Trump was much greater nationally than in the swing states they campaigned in. Don’t disagree re media ecosystems, but it’s also easy to learn the wrong lessons from a close election

The US electorate isn’t Left-of-centre and the Republicans won the popular vote this time. Being tied to the Left ‘base’ in these circumstances does not seem like a great approach to winning in future, especially after Biden’s admin did largely accommodate them and continued to be protested.

That doesn’t detract from the point people who heard about Project 2025 did not like it. Just like when the actual policies of Harris vs Trump were blind surveyed, voters overwhelmingly preferred most of the platform of Harris vs Trump today.yougov.com/politics/art...
