Joy in resistance. Amazed to see how many folks showed up to say #HandsOff in Poulsbo, WA. So grateful to share this moment with my son. On the car ride home, he shouted “The people are doing it!”

Every single time a story like this is reported, we must assume that there are many many more that do not.
CBP didn’t give her or anyone any water; she asked 3 times accg to other reports. CBP killed a 7yr old.

“8 hours after the girl & her father were taken into custody, she began having seizures & her body temperature was measured at 105.7 degrees by emergency medical technicians. shorturl.at/d2OTJ
7-Year-Old Migrant Girl Dies Of Dehydration And Shock In U.S. Border Patrol Custody
The girl's death underscores the crisis precipitated by large groups of families seeking asylum where there are inadequate facilities to detain them.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

I’m a teacher and the children and families I know and love are not criminals. They’re wonderful regular people who, like all of us, are trying to live safe, comfortable lives. Taking anyone in this manner is horrifying, and detaining children is shameful and unconscionable. ICE OUT!
Liam, 5, has been freed, but four other students from his school district remain detained in Texas. Two boys from his elementary school were taken Thurs

“This isn’t something we are prepared or trained for. We’ve dedicated our lives to protecting + educating children,” school superintendent told me
ICE detains two more students from Liam Ramos’s school, officials say
The brothers’ mother was taken by ICE and Minnesota educators were forced to bring the children to her

Also, my father’s final words to me were to continue to fight the good fight. He would be honored in Alex’s sacrifice, and ashamed of this current administration.

In my dad’s words, I encourage you all to continue to “fight the good fight.”

Post from Mac Randolph

RIP Alex Pretti,

He was my Dad’s ICU nurse. He read my dad’s final salute at the VA after he passed away. Never wanted to share this video, but his speech is very on point.

I’ve shared Claudette’s story with my students every year. They feel empowered seeing how young people like themselves can effect change. How their resistance can ripple across generations. I hope that we can all find it within ourselves to be as brave as Claudette. Thank you, Claudette 💜
Friends, Claudette Colvin—the 15-year-old who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus in March 1955 & joined the federal case against bus segregation that went to the Supreme Court — died today at age 86. But there are lots of myths and mis-impressions about her. A short corrective thread:

During Independent Bookstore Day, BTP is partnering with local independent bookstores & a family foundation to bring much-needed new books to our readers.

Visit stores April 21-May 5 & buy a book for BTP from BTP-specific tables/wishlists. A family foundation will MATCH the value of every purchase!

Power to the people! Shout out to all the folks doing the work to fight for democracy.
I guess Elon Musk can't buy every election.

Congratulations to Wisconsin, a state that continues to impress with their legislative and judicial election results.

(I say that begrudgingly as someone who has a lot of family from Minnesota)

Netanyahu has not allowed any aid into Gaza in 22 days. He broke the ceasefire, resuming a bombing campaign that has killed more than 50,000 people. Now he is threatening a long-term occupation of Gaza.

NO MORE MILITARY AID TO NETANYAHU’S WAR MACHINE.

In 1968, 24 Black men in Pittsburgh revolutionized emergency medicine.

The Freedom House Ambulance Service was established to provide emergency medical care to underserved Black neighborhoods—creating the world’s first paramedics.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉
