I know and believe it is adjusted net income that counts for hicbc and the childcare eligibility test. That deducts private pension contributions. Eg this example from hmrc

As someone who grew up in South Africa, I wonder what on earth he means by English South African. It’s a long time ago and I was a child but my recollection is a key part of being South African was NOT English.

Strange what gets people’s attention. I expect a lot easier to get the top 5 causes of death down by say 1% which would be equivalent of approx 2000 lives saved.
