Zach’s recording a podcast tonight, so it’s just me, the kitty cat, and the Calvard Republic

A reminder that my job essentially revolves around the Switch... and somehow I still played mostly games from previous years

Balatro just missed out 😢

I could do this more, but I don’t want to keep clogging up feeds and I’m trying to be less attached to social media than I was back on The Old Site years ago

Instead, say hello to our cat, Miles. He loves sunlight, headbutts, chasing lights, and sleep

I’m Im not much of a superhero person, but Batman: Arkham Asylum is a masterpiece in both being the bat *and* restricting the bat. One of my favourite “maps” in a video game, filled to the brim with secrets and puzzles

I have nothing original to say here. Symphony of the Night is *the* comfort game. I can lose 8 hours of my life to this every playthrough without a care in the world. It’s just perfect

Florence had a message I absolutely needed to hear back in late 2018 and it’s brief, bittersweet, but beautiful and hopeful story has stuck with me ever since I played it

If you didn’t weep at the end of Chapter 5/beginning of Chapter 6… I don’t know if we can be friends.

Even with its shaky final few hours, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 catapulted itself into my heart because of its outlook on life. Sparkin’ brilliant

Even with 5 being amazing, I still think DMC3 is my favourite. It’s the perfect blend of stupid and action-packed, and genuinely challenging all the way through. The brothers’ ridiculous rivalry is my favourite thing

Wait, what do you mean Trails in the Sky the 3rd is your favourite?

Hmmm, I don’t know. Outstanding character writing, one of the best protagonists, a great distillation of the Sky trilogy’s gameplay and messages? And no, you shouldn’t skip it.

Pyre is the hardest Supergiant game to recommend - it’s not my favourite either (shock, it’s Hades). But it’s probably the most “me” game they’ve made, framing the story around the Book of Rites and Liberation. It’s such a weird mishmash of things and I love it for it

Tepid take time: Tales of the Abyss is the Best One. It still has some unfortunate Tales Trappings (too much backtracking), but it’s the most thematically-rich entry starring a bunch of messed-up teenagers and adults

This whole series rules, but Shadow Hearts Covenant is the “complete” package. Stupid, tonally dissonant, sometimes heartbreaking, and fucking Rasputin is a major villain.
October 21, 2024 at 2:39 PM
I’m going to cheat here - both Shadowbringers and Endwalker are the pinnacle of Final Fantasy XIV. They both work together so perfectly - despair to hope, suffering to light. Plus, without FFXIV, I probably wouldn’t be with my husband

No other video game shoots for the moon quite like Xenogears. It’s a mess of psychological and theological concepts and way too ambitious for its own good, but I eat this kind of shit up.

Pssst, disc 2 is the best part
