Given the rapid development of AI and various software to write text, we would suggest that editors/associate editors develop some system to check the veracity of the text and references prior to inviting a review.

Fake References. We were just asked by an Editor of a journal to consider replying to a letter submitted about a manuscript we had published. It was only while we were considering possible replies that we found out that all 4 citations in support of the letter were false.

It pains me to say this, but if you are not a US citizen, you should not attend scientific conferences in the US, visit US institutions, or otherwise travel to our country.

Right now it's not worth the risk.

Hopefully that will change. If it doesn't, science in the US is sunk anyway.

The news about the potential reduction of CDC staff risks a scary scenario of the USA infecting the world. Europe and the UK must consider increasing surveillance of those travelling from the USA if this comes to pass.
