development of a Jewish homeland. It had as its goal Jewish survival, self-determination, and safety, through the creation of a sovereign Jewish state. Nazism, by contrast, was an atheoretical but fascist movement originally promoted in the first half of the 20th century that sought to establish

Zionism and Nazism can be said to have similarities and differences not unlike apples and oranges. One of the key differences is that Zionism originated in the late 19th century as a response to antisemitic fervor in Europe. Zionism was a nationalist movement seeking the re-establishment and

That’s not to say the two don’t share similarities, of course. Both grow on trees, have seeds, and can be juiced.

The two fruits are also different in how we consume them. Most people eat apples skin and all, leaving behind the core, which is inedible. Its seeds are also poisonous. Oranges, however, are typically peeled and do not have a core.

Alright, I’ll spell it out. The apple is red, although some varieties are known to be shades of red, green, and yellow. The flesh of the apple tends to be juicy but crisper and chewier than that of an orange. Oranges, by contrast, are famously an orange color and have unique physical characteristics

Also I’ll take that as a concession that no, Pol Pot was not a Nazi.

What part of me expressing the mildest frustration with you is not engaging in good faith?
May 8, 2025 at 4:23 PM
Well, perhaps an illustration will help. The apple is the one on the left, while the orange is the one on the right. Do you note any differences?

What in the name of God are you on about? The Khmer Rouge performed ethnic cleansing and extermination. Was Pol Pot a Nazi, too?
May 8, 2025 at 4:19 PM
And? What are you going to tell me next, that apples = oranges because they both have seeds?

Exactly, you’re just speaking past me. Nazism is characterized by antisemitism, seeing Jews as subhuman. That’s the opposite of Zionism.
May 8, 2025 at 4:11 PM
Got it. The “Zionism=Nazism” thing was just a bit. They’ve been trolling.
May 8, 2025 at 4:09 PM
What? Where did I say that? My point has only been that the movements are different insofar as one is antisemitic while the other is a response to antisemitism. They’re different because of who the targets of their ire are.

I’ve been trying to engage these people in good faith but my patience is wearing thin.
May 8, 2025 at 4:01 PM
What makes you think I don’t see Palestinians as people…?
May 8, 2025 at 4:00 PM
That’s what I’ve concluded so far, too. Israel’s genocide is awful, but that doesn’t mean Zionists are Nazis or vice versa.
May 8, 2025 at 3:59 PM
I can’t tell if you’re intentionally being obtuse, so I’ll say it one more time: There is little point arguing against a logical fallacy. Imagine how frustrated you would get having to explain to someone, “Look, apples and oranges are both fruit, that’s true, but they’re not the same thing.”
May 8, 2025 at 3:58 PM
I don’t see Palestinians as less human than anyone. I do recognize, however, that just because a regime is fascist, supremacist, and genocidal does not ipso facto mean that the people in power are “Nazis.” Was Pol Pot a Nazi, too?
