In less than 72 hours hundreds of donors from across the US (even Auburn) rallied to defend the free speech rights of students who were silenced by the University of Alabama. Thanks to your help, MASTHEAD will be able to independently publish magazines by the staffs of Alice and Nineteen Fifty-Six.

U of Alabama alumni raise solidarity funds for suspended student magazines!

On Dec. 1, university officials told student journalists at Nineteen Fifty-Six, a magazine celebrating Black student culture, and Alice, a magazine centered on women’s fashion and lifestyle, that their publications would be shuttered immediately.

We sent a letter this morning to Pres Mohler & Dr. Hood regarding UA's decision to suspend [Alice] and Nineteen Fifty-Six. We urge them to reinstate these publications immediately. We dispute their legal rationale for closing these pubs & stand in solidarity w/ the students who produce & read them
