I have never encountered these, but they do remind me of the Usborne "Solve it yourself" mysteries. These too had full page pictures on them, but they were all part of a story where you had to solve some mystery.

Trying out ultra high density EVA foam for these, as I need these giant feathers to have some stiffness to them.
The feather shafts are made from half round styrene rods. It's fiddly to glue them, but they should look good once painted.
