The color in Armand’s cheeks spread to his neck and ears. “That is, ah…my apologies. We did not mean any disrespect.” Vid could’ve melted into the ground and been happier five feet under than he was bearing witness to this conversation. As that was physiologically unlikely, he instead pressed the palm of his hand into his forehead and stared at the ground, grimacing. “You misunderstand me. Passion isn’t a bad thing; passion leads to realization and to exaltation of our Lord. It must be tempered rationally, as all things must be, but it can bear great fruits.” Veilwalker Khasi took a few steps toward Armand and extended her ethereal arm. “Now, may I see your hand? I will imbue a portion of spirit into your conduit that you may call upon. I do my utmost to assist my channelers, but you will be, at present, my fourth. At times, the spiritual threads tangle.”

Vid foolishly thought that he would have the time and energy to kindle something more with Armand, but by the time he’d finished his nightly duties he was ready to pass out in a heap of blankets and drool-stained pillows. They talked, of course, especially since Armand had the aggravating habit of narrating all of his thoughts out loud, but they spoke about things like the workload and shared texts and whatever alms made it to the dining hall that day – nothing deeper. He didn’t think he could fit a relationship into his packed schedule. Maybe a fuck, but he wanted more than what a single fuck could offer. But he had hope. Once the circle assessments were complete, he’d spend half his day away from Mother Yasmin for more specialized instruction. Ideally, the time away from her and her inability to use the assessments as an excuse would lead to a more reasonable workload and an hour or two of downtime a day. That had to be achievable. Otherwise, he’d burn out until he became ash.
