My guess is that feeling exists in every country, albeit tucked away in small corners of some.

Makes sense - as a naive data point, I've noticed that feeling of being in a community that cares is much more salient in smaller towns that I've lived in (Lexington, MA and Cary, NC in the past) versus larger cities (Seattle, WA) or "college towns" (Chapel Hill, NC).

100% true. Perhaps an order of magnitude worse in urban areas in particular.

I went through Montana while driving back across the country (Seattle, WA to Chapel Hill, NC) from an internship this past August - the entire western-ish part of the state was an absolute beauty, just like this picture for many parts!
