Another new species for me: Singleleaf Pinyon pine (Pinus monophylla) the only pine in the world with a single needle per fascicle.

It’s not often that I see wood from butternut (Juglans cinerea). It’s a beautiful wood, lighter in color than its relative the black walnut (Juglans nigra). Butternut trees are listed as endangered by IUCN because of introduced fungi that causes butternut canker.

The fall colors are finally popping! 🍁Perfect stretch of weather: cool nights, bright sunny days, and no rain.

These conditions trigger the breakdown of chlorophyll and in some species, development of anthocyanin (red pigments)
