If you installed the REDUCE with Homebrew reduce-algebra on a Mac and have used X11 in the past and are not prompted, the other response, other than adding --nogui in the startup options, is to install the latest version of XQuartz. It can be started from a terminal or XQuartz xterm.

When you install reduce-algebra on your Mac with Homebrew, if you have been using Mac for a long time, you may not get a prompt when you start it up, perhaps due to X11-related interference. In that case, you can start it with reduce --nogui.
