This dimension undermines the pure national group ontology of Hazony's understanding of Jewishness and maybe other groups too. But arguably so does most of nationalism studies, even Anthony Smith and primordialism.

One fascinating thing about Judaism is that it is an ethnic religion that you can convert to! It's especially easy in Bible stories compared to later history. I view Judaism as an "imagined community" ethno-religion, because converts become sanctified members whose children are considered Jewish.

I didn't mention stories like Rahab or Ruth, I emphasized dialectical principles and important universalist instincts in Jewish tradition broadly, but that's an excellent additional point!
