I'm speaking of its present use as a nickname specific to trans women.

I have friends who are into Sailor Moon. I also quite like Cardcaptorさくら. There's something out there for everyone, and no one is ever going to enjoy everything based on a single archetype.

Personally, I like the depressing and sometimes gore-ridden presentations of 魔法少女.
I will acknowledge that this isn't for everyone and you're perfectly free to enjoy your own favorite magical girl series.

I hate it insofar as it feels like another term meant to separate 'trans women' from 'women', which we really don't need more of. But I also like it in a way because it's cute.

We just don't really need more terms that otherize trans women by calling them something different than women, imo.
