was just looking at Levittown where the 6000sqft lots that were built out with similar houses are rapidly being rebuilt with $1.5M+ mansions because there are no more potato fields within a reasonable commute of NYC

the tarrytown/sleepy hollow waterfront is at least getting built up at midrise density but the housing is still comically expensive enough to indicate that the density should be still-higher (and in buildings with pretty inefficient floorplans compared to mostly-single-stair brooklyn heights)

Milwaukee has been adding beer gardens back to its parks over the past decade and buying beer at the park from a government employee while surrounded by happy families is a wonderful way to honor the parks' socialist history

the street-level brickwork is very tasteful & it would have been nice if they just continued it all the way up, eg some recent north brooklyn/dumbo stuff in a similar vein

Why did Milwaukee reelect Socialist mayors for decades? They were fire breathing crusaders against corruption in what was, in the 19th century, an extremely corrupt city, and they frugally and competently administered public services to a very high standard

Strava pretends I save carbon ebiking but my alternative is taking the subway not driving a single-occupancy gas-powered SUV
(the car trip would be basically impossible because of the subway-oriented land use of the neighborhood I chose to live in for its bikability to the Manhattan job market)
