He was a superb bass player and came across as a thoroughly decent bloke too. I once passed him standing outside a club in Manchester, cig in hand, I nodded to him and he responded with a cheerful and genuinely friendly "hello mate, y'alright?" as if I was a pal he hadn't seen in ages

Ha, just read the bit about Christophe designing the heavy metal logos - I was in a metal band in the mid 2000s and he did our logo (and it was quite similar to the one in the first image od that piece) - glad to see he's still at it and thanks for the reminder of when I was briefly cool!
