My favorite theory has to be Cognitive Dissonance. It basically explains why we bend over backwards to make our choices “make sense” 😂 I see it in myself and everyone around me. It’s super real and kind of hilarious. Example: "girl math" #UTcommtheory

My biggest takeaway is that we communicate way more intentionally than we think. Even when it's through silence, emojis, and timing. Everything sends a message. #UTcommtheory

After watching that algorithm video, I think Agenda-Setting Theory still holds up. Algorithms decide what feels “important,” and my timeline definitely shapes what I pay attention to. Wild how personalized the agenda has become. #UTcommtheory

The conversation around PBS funding cuts totally took over my feed. Seeing Sesame Street pulled into the debate really got people talking about how much we rely on free educational TV. #UTcommtheory

My parasocial fave is Grace from Monte Carlo. I relate so much to her work ethic and her craving for something bigger than her small-town routine. Following her story gives me a little boost of motivation and that “go for it” energy when life feels too routine. #UTcommtheory

I chose Disney because of how their movies shape ideas of “happily ever after” and what romance or family should look like. Their stories become the baseline for a lot of kids growing up. #UTcommtheory

Posted a vague ‘I’m so done’ story about my group project once, then over the next few days, everyone was asking if I was okay. Context collapse is real. #UTcommtheory

AI has made group projects harder for me. Some people use it to write their entire parts, so the work feels uneven and less authentic. It’s tough to collaborate when you’re not sure if you’re working with your classmates’ real thoughts or just ChatGPT’s version of them. #UTcommtheory

I’ve definitely done assertive assimilation before, like when I started a new job and toned down how I usually talk so I’d blend in with my older coworkers. It wasn’t fake, just me trying to sound like I belonged as the youngest employee. #UTcommtheory

I respond best to the participation approach. Everyone having a voice makes decisions feel fair and collaborative #UTcommtheory

Fast food chains need a culture shift. Becoming less focused on speed and valuing employees more leads to better service and a stronger brand #UTcommtheory

Sometimes all it takes is one kind word to turn someone’s entire day around. You never know what people are carrying, so choose to be kind, you might be the only light they see today. #UTcommtheory

I agree with Media Multiplexity Theory. The closer I am to someone, the more ways we stay in touch. My best friend and I text, FaceTime, text, and share TikToks daily. it’s like every app becomes part of the friendship. #UTcommtheory

Communication Privacy Management Theory hits hard on social media. I set “privacy rules” for what I share, like posting trip photos only after I’m home. Still, when someone tags me unexpectedly, that boundary gets crossed; privacy online is never as clear as we want it to be. #UTcommtheory

Peter Parker and Mary Jane show the tension of conventionality vs. uniqueness. They want a normal relationship, but Peter’s life as Spider-Man makes that impossible. Relational Dialectics Theory explains how love can pull between ordinary and extraordinary. #UTcommtheory

The 1st axiom of Uncertainty Reduction Theory is that as communication increases, uncertainty decreases. I saw this when I started working. On the first day, I felt nervous because I did not know my coworkers. After chatting with them during lunch, I felt more comfortable and confident #UTcommtheory

Went on a first date once where, 20 mins in, the guy unloaded every detail about his ex: drama, family secrets, the works. According to Social Penetration Theory, self-disclosure should build gradually. Instead, he skipped small talk & dove into the deep end. #UTcommtheory

I grew up in a consensual family type. Lots of open discussion, but my parents (mostly mom) usually had the final say. For example, I could share my opinions about curfews, but at the end of the day, their rules stood. It taught me respect and communication at the same time. #UTcommtheory

Skipped replying to my best friend’s text right away something I never do. She double-texted, checking in then called an hour later. Her quick response and call showed me how much she values our back-and-forth, and that our friendship thrives on consistency. #UTcommtheory

I think the Rhetorical Tradition is most appealing because it focuses on persuasion and the power of language. Words can shape ideas, inspire action, and create change. This theory proves just how important communication is to human connection. #UTcommtheory

I think aesthetic appeal is one of the most important theory criteria. At the core, people are creative; we connect not only with logic, but with beauty. A theory that inspires us is more likely to be remembered, shared, and lived out. #UTcommtheory

I'm more drawn to the interpretive approach to theorizing because I naturally tend to think less logically and more outside of the box. In other words, I tend to overcomplicate simple tasks already, so why should I expect my brain to shift when it comes to theories? #UTcommtheory

My favorite theory is the cognitive dissonance theory. This says we feel tension when our beliefs and actions don’t match, so we change one to reduce discomfort. It fits Burgoon’s view of theory since it’s systematic, informed, and explains how people work. #UTcommtheory
