Reflecting on my time on Twitter/X has made me realise what made it special in the first place.
My hope is that @bsky.app can replicate that experience, particularly how it felt in the early years.
My inclination, is that this is certainly possible.

Unfortunately, X is still useful for this, but more and more people in theatre (who are predominantly liberally-minded) are leaving the platform.
As years go by, less and less networking opportunities will be available there.

It’s hard to move on from this, while so many individuals still use it as their predominant news outlet. But more users are flocking to other sites, and this may not be the case in 2-3 years

Since then, extreme accounts and views have been boosted, meaning that content is pushed at you, regardless of whether you don’t want to see it.

All of this, was able to be moderated through personalising your feeds, and through muting and blocking content that was distasteful.
It was my experience. That was what was special. My feed was different from anyone else’s, and I had freedom to use it as I chose.

I found that my main purpose was to find out the latest news for various sports outlets. Suddenly, instant reactions to events were at my finger tips, and I felt like I was at the centre of the universe.

Twitter in its hay day was a small, ultra-personalised, closed-knit community. It was (mostly) respectful, well-moderated, and rewarding for making new connections, and staying up-to-date…
