Can't really speak for the Sims, or even DA (which has been thoroughly shelved even before this deal), but I guess our only hope is with the acquisition, they focus on sports games, and allow Bioware, Maxis et al continue doing what they're doing with minimal intervention / interest.

Exactly. EA's no saint (does that even need to be said!), but given how at odds the socially regressive track-record of some of the private investors is, compared to some of the key aspects at the heart of Mass Effect, I'm not feeling hopeful...
